Some projects ask you to create beautiful visuals. Others ask you to make complex ideas easier to understand.

This project asked for both!

Created for Science News, The Science Behind Nuclear Weapons Testing explores the science behind one of history's most controversial technologies. The challenge wasn't simply producing engaging visuals, but maintaining the viewer's attention while explaining a subject that is both technically dense and heavily driven by narration.

My role in the project focused on shaping that experience.

A large part of the process happened before the animation itself. I spent a significant amount of time editing the interview, selecting the strongest moments from the narration and refining the pacing through careful cuts and transitions.

The goal was to create a rhythm that kept the information flowing naturally without feeling rushed or repetitive.

Once that structure was in place, the visual language became equally important.

Throughout the film, illustrations, collage elements, motion graphics, and archival material were combined to support the narration rather than compete with it. Every visual decision was made to reinforce the explanation, helping transform long sections of spoken information into something engaging and easier to follow.

One of the aspects I enjoyed most about this project was finding the balance between education and storytelling. The animation wasn't there simply to decorate the content. It became another layer of communication, guiding the viewer through concepts that could otherwise feel abstract or overwhelming.

That approach ended up being recognized beyond the project itself.

The film received a Gold Telly Award in the General – Explainer category, honoring work that communicates complex ideas through engaging visual storytelling. It also received a Silver Vega Digital Award in the Video / Online Video – Science & Technology category.

Receiving recognition from both competitions was incredibly rewarding, especially because the awards celebrated exactly what this project set out to achieve: making a complex subject clear, engaging, and accessible.
